Project Community Waste Network (BREW)
Partner Community Recycling Network (UK)
Lifetime 2005 – 2007
Funding NWDA £89,000
The Community Waste Network Project was a pilot initiative aimed at supporting capacity building in waste and recycling within the voluntary and community sectors. Activities included the establishment of a programme called ‘Sharing Resources’ to assist Community Waste Sector organisations in bid development, business planning support and tailored marketing advice; and the ‘Resourcesaver’ initiative to support collaboration with NISP on re-use and resource exchange within the region.
Outputs A final report which concluded that a specialist programme should be designed to support the sector.
Lessons learned Better information needs to be gathered and shared to strategically plan and implement expansion of community waste recycling schemes.  The sector also requires skills development and investment in capital assets to expand further.
Future outlook The CRN UK is dedicated to supporting and representing the work of its members. It does this through promoting the sector, representing its interests on committees and through consultations and campaigns. They also provide a range of services including monthly enews, reduced rates at events, a dedicated members only area of the CRN website, training and advice.
